NEW ROAD FRONTAGE AT SLIEVENAMON

Major work on the road frontage of the club started recently.

The car park will be extended as part of the new development.

A new entrance to the club will be built as part of the development of the new housing scheme which has also started on part of the lands which were previously unused, at Slievenamon Golf Club.

NEW HEAD GREEN KEEPER

Our new head green keeper John Doyle (left) has started work at the club. John is taking over from Des Murtagh (right) who is emigrating to Thailand to take up a new position there. John was former head green keeper at Adare Manor G.C., he has also worked at Tulfarris G.C. and Mountrath G.C.

MAJOR DRAINAGE ON THE COURSE

We have a major drainage program taking place on the course over the next few weeks. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause to players, but I'm sure they will not mind when they see the benefits over the long winter months.

Working between the 9th fairway and 12th green.

The drainage work which was started last year and proved a great success on the holes that were done then, has now been completed with the whole course now finished. We should see the benifits over the long winter months.

The two new holes which have been completed and are now open. They are the new tenth and eleventh holes with the present two par 3 holes the 6th and 7th being amalgamated to become a new par 4 hole. The par 4-15th hole will be amalgamated with the par 3-16th hole to become a new par 5 hole. With this development and the ongoing extension work being done at the moment to the second hole this will mean the par of the course will become a par 67. Further developments which are planned for next year will see the course extended to a par of 70. There are also plans for major drainage work to be done on the course early next year.

MAJOR WORK BEING DONE ON THE GREENS

All the greens have been treated with this special machine which pumps air under pressure under the greens, this raises the green nearly three inches and then special granules are pumped into the cavities this creates, this is a great aid to drainage and grass growth on the greens.
